The Children`s Slogan: Child Abuser, Beware!

Child abusers in ward 5 wards of Makoni District are in panic mode as the children`s slogan, “Zimbabwe Republic Police- our friends! Our friends, Zimbabwe Republic Police! is instilling fear that is sending shivers down the spines of potential child abusers. Children First and its large pool of community caregivers partnered Zimbabwe Republic Police Victim Friendly Unit and Government Department of Social Services’ Child Care Division to raise awareness on issues of all forms abuses like sexual, emotional, physical and self-abuses.

Children have been sensitised on early reporting of any abuses committed on them to the police. Children have been encouraged to disclose all forms of abuse to their guardians, police, church leaders, nurses, school teachers, Social Services Child Care Workers and Children First caregivers. Children, particularly, adolescent girls, have as a result of these awareness sessions and training on child protection and safeguarding, become empowered and determined to be AIDS free and protect themselves from contracting HIV. There is now a perception change in the children of seeing the police as their friends and protectors unlike in the past when they feared them. The community members have been raised to heights of intense joy by the children`s slogan which is a manifestation that children`s knowledge on their rights have taken a great leap forward! Child Abuser, Beware!
